About the Town

Welcome to Lavallette, NJ

The beach community of Lavallette is one of the nicest towns on the Barnegat Peninsula. You enjoy public access to ocean beaches used mostly by residents and renters. Day-trippers are discouraged by lack of restrooms or concession stands. The Barnegat Bay shoreline has 2 swimming beaches and is dotted with playgrounds for the kids. Point Pleasant is to the North and Seaside Heights to the South, both a short drive away yet far enough that you will feel removed from these busier shore areas. Continue further South and you get to Island Beach State Park, the pristine 10-mile tip of the peninsula where dogs, BBQs, boats and picnics are welcome.

There are places to rent boats, jet skis and bikes, beach shopping within walking distance to town, and various restaurants, arcades, bakeries, and more. Bay Boulevard is wide and great for walking and biking. The boardwalk stretches the length of town and is great for walking and enjoying the fresh sea air. And as a result of conservation efforts, we now regularly see whales and dolphins passing through. Lavallette is truly a jewel, treasured by families and visitors for its friendly atmosphere and bustling seaside charm.

Create Your Own Memories

Our great-uncle August “Augie” von Hassel built 2 houses in Lavallette in 1938 when the town was served by a railroad on what is now 35 north, and there was nothing but sand and sea. His Nephew and our grandfather, Adolph Augustus Herman von Hassel, his wife Bertha and his children George and William enjoyed boating at the Lavallette Yacht Club and crabbing on the bay. George’s children grew up at the shore, spending every summer sailing at the Yacht Club, going to the beach, working at local restaurants and making lifelong friends. Now grand-children enjoy mini-golf , arcades, the clanging of the ice cream truck, and the beautiful beaches. We are happy to share our family home with you, and to introduce you to the town we love so much!
